Botley is a quiet suburb in West Oxford, close to fields and woods, about a mile from Oxford Station and 1.5 miles from the City Centre (10 minutes on the bus, £4 - £5 by taxi). There are frequent bus connections from and into town. A cycle ride into town takes 10 to 15 minutes.
Our house is up the hill, about 5 minutes walk from the Botley shopping precinct where you find a coop supermarket, several restaurants, banks, video hire, post office, hardware shop. These shops cater more than adequately for your daily needs. There are several big stores on the Botley Road which connects Botley with the city centre (DIY stores, Toys R Us, Argos, PC World, etc).
Oxford offers, of course, access to a rich cultural, architechtural and academic history. All of this is accessible from Botley by a 10 minute bus ride.
For everything about Oxford, surf towards Daily Information, our local one-stop internet treasure trove.
During the day, especially rush hour and Saturday daytime, use the Ring Road (around the South or preferably North). The South Ring Road has more roundabouts, its mostly straight across, following signs to Swindon (A420), or London on your way back.
The North Ring Road is quicker and easier on the whole, but has a tricky bit around the Peartree Roundabout: coming from London, turn towards Woodstock, then onto Ring Road A34 going South, leave Ring Road at next exit following signs to Botley and City Centre. You come down to a big T-junction (with view onto the fairly new McDonalds). Instead of turning left towards the City Centre, you turn right towards Botley to get to our house. You pass underneath the Ring Road and turn left immediately into Westminster Way (see map below). On your way back follow signs to London.
During the evening / night it is shorter and quicker to go through the centre of town, in which case follow signs saying Station / West / Botley / Swindon.
Frequent bus links (every 30 minutes) from and to the airport connect Heathrow with Oxford bus station (Gloucester Green). From there you take the bus or the taxi.
